City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Goodreads Summary: When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

My Take: I actually really liked this book. It was listed at the library a horror book and at first I couldn't see why, but as I read on I can now see why. It is also a mix of humor and romance. If it was a movie it would probably be in the horror section.

Mortal Instruments is primarily based on demon hunters. The book has everything such as warlocks, vampires and werewolves.

In the end, my world crashed down on me, what is revealed is horrific and is EXTREMELY creepy (I can't say or I would ruin the book) and I REALLY hope what is revealed is not true but I can't see how it would not be.

This book is really long (not the quick read I am used to), but it compelled me to keep reading until the end and I am looking forward to reading the next one.

***If you are thinking about not reading the remaining books just because of the ending, don't give up! Each book gets better.

I actually read a different review of this book and thought, sounds well done but not for me. Your review has changed my mind.

Sounds like a fusion fantasy--the author has mixed horror and fantasy. And I love my horror and I love my fantasy. If you offer me humor and love on top of that, I am so your bitch.

Solid review.
