The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Summary:In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

My Take:I am having a hard time writing a review for this book (a rollercoaster of emotions). I can honestly say that this is one of the best books I have ever read. The whole book is so compelling! It is so horrible but sooo good! I started reading Catching Fire and I know that it is going to be just as good, if not better.

Katniss has spent the last few years of her life providing for her sister and mother by illegally passing the fence that keeps them in District 12. Her family would starve if she didn't hunt outside the district.
The Reaping is something every family dreads. The Capitol requires that all children (ages 13 to 17) enter their names in to a drawing to fight in The Hunger Games.

One boy and one girl from each of 12 districts totaling 24 and only one can live. The Hunger Games is about the fight and survival. With everyone watching on live TV, the children’s best option is to entertain their audience.
